Prosecutor Rafael Donny told the court that the offences were committed between July 25 and July 28 at the residence of the accused.

Donny said the accused lured the 14-year-old girl, who was sent on an errand, into his house and shut the door before assaulting her sexually.

“The accused abducted the girl for four days and assaulted her sexually.

“It was one of her relations who sighted her in front of the accused’s house that reported to the police,” Sgt. Donny said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 141(a) and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

The accused, who entered a ‘not-guilty’ plea, risks 18 years or life imprisonment on conviction.

Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias admitted the accused to a bail of N100, 000 in addition to two sureties in like sum.

The case has been adjourned to October 6 for mention.

DIEGO COSTA: I WANTED ATLETICO MADRID RETURN

The Chelsea forward says he wanted to go back to Spain
to join his former club and link up with Diego Simeone,
but a few details prevented the transfer
Chelsea striker Diego Costa has revealed that he had his heart set
on a return to Atletico Madrid this summer, but the move failed
to go through because of "a few details".
Costa is now in his third season with Chelsea, scoring twice in the
opening three Premier League games of the season to take him to
39 goals for the London club.
The Spain international had been linked with a move back to
Atletico, and he has revealed he would have preferred to be
plying his trade at the Vicente Calderon this season instead of
Stamford Bridge.
"I wished I could go back to Atletico, I'm not going to lie," he
told Spanish TV station Movistar Plus while on international duty.
"Everyone knows what happened to me in England, with the
language, the weather and everything. But I can't complain
because I'm a boy whom the fans love, at Chelsea they respect me.
"I had the chance to go back but I couldn't, because of a few
details. I'm grateful to the people at Atletico, to Cholo [Simeone]
especially, who has always put his confidence in me.
"Now I am at Chelsea, I'm doing well, the league has started and
I'm focused on that. Things are how they are. I hope that
Atletico do very well, like last season but this time win titles. I
want the best for them, I always feel for them, but I have to do
my work at Chelsea."
Costa was part of the Atletico side that won the 2013-14 La Liga
title and reached the 2014 Champions League final under
Simeone, while he won the league in his first season in England.

HART HOLDS UP A TORINO SHIRT AS MAN CITY EXIT HASTENS

The England international goalkeeper is on the verge of
completing a season-long switch to the Serie A club,
after falling out of favour with manager Pep Guardiola
Joe Hart has been spotted holding a Torino shirt as confirmation
of his loan move from Manchester City gets closer.
The City goalkeeper's transfer to the Serie A side is yet to be
confirmed, but he has been photographed by Goal holding their
jersey.
The 29-year-old lost his place in the City first-team this season,
with new coach Pep Guardiola preferring Willy Caballero in goal
ahead of him, while Claudio Bravo recently joined from
Barcelona.
The England international had been linked to Everton,
Sunderland and Torino, but his agent revealed he has agreed to
join the latter and it is expected to be made official by either
side imminently.
"It is done," Jonathan Barnett said. "The goalkeeper said yes to
the club and now Manchester City has given its green light.

OFFICIAL: ARSENAL COMPLETE MUSTAFI SIGNING

Arsenal announced the signing of centre-back Shkodran Mustafi
from Valencia for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old's transfer was confirmed after manager
Arsene Wenger announced that the completion of paperwork was
the final hurdle to clear following Saturday's 3-1 win over
Watford.
Wenger had been under pressure for a perceived lack of activity
in the window but can now count on Mustafi to bolster a defence
that has lost Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista to injury.
"He is at the right age. He has good experience," the Frenchamn
told the club's official website. "He is a very focused player who
can play with the ball as well.
"We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the
future."
It is a return to the Premier League for former Everton
player Mustafi, who moved to Sampdoria before joining Valencia
and making 64 La Liga appearances there.
The World Cup winner has become the third major signing of the
summer for Arsenal following Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez's
moves to the Emirates Stadium.
Perez had been announced by the club earlier on Tuesday, as the
title challengers race to make up for a slow start to the transfer
window.

Not Every Public Servant Is A Thief – Ex-BPP Boss, Emeka Eze Says

A former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Emeka Ezeh, on Monday, August 29, reportedly said it was wrong to brand public servants as thieves, saying people go into government for different reasons.

Premium Times reported that the former BPP boss said this shortly after he was awarded the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award for Excellence by the West African Students Parliament, (WASP), in Abuja.

He expressed shock at the level public funds were being looted and called for serious measures to tackle the problem.

He, however, insisted that there are many diligent and conscientious public servants, who serve under political leaders in the country.

“Not everybody who works for government or public institutions is a thief as there are many diligent and conscientious public servants who serve the political leaders of the time,” he said.

“Government can strengthen the oversight powers of the Bureau of Public Procurement to prevent abuses.

“What is happening in Nigeria is not peculiar to Nigeria except that the speed of getting judicial remedy is faster in other climes.”

He urged the judiciary to find ways to quicken the process of adjudication of cases bordering on corruption, pointing out that justice delayed is justice denied.

He said a directive by the Chief Justice of the Federation to judicial officers across the country can go a long way to fast-track the trial of cases bordering on contract fraud.

While expressing surprise at the revelations about looting of public funds before various courts, Mr. Ezeh said there is need to strengthen the country’s anti-corruption agencies.

“Nigeria is not the worst country on earth, and as such there is no reason to continuously give ourselves negative energy. We should not be too critical of ourselves, in spite of our shortcomings,” he said.

“The current challenges should rather make us see our cup as half full, rather than as half empty, especially with the concerted efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari, to take the nation out of the woods.

“I feel highly honoured with this award; especially that it is coming after I left office. Nothing holds a nation together like hardwork, and honesty. And honesty is what you do when nobody is watching you, not necessarily what you do when people are watching you”

WASP Director, Nigerian Affairs, Donald Udo, said Mr. Ezeh was nominated for his diligent, painstaking and dedicated service to the procurement cause.

With the award, Mr. Udo said Mr. Eze now joined the league of other distinguished recipients including former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Muhammadu Uwais, and respected academic, Prof. John Udoko.

Ozil on target as Gunners finally fire

Arsenal’s Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez gestures to supporters on the pitch after the English Premier League football match between Watford and Arsenal at Vicarage Road Stadium in Watford, north of London on August 27, 2016. Arsenal won the game 3-1.

A goal from Mesut Ozil on his first start of the campaign rounded off a much-needed win for Arsenal as they secured a comfortable 3-1 Premier League triumph at Watford.

Santi Cazorla, from the penalty spot, Alexis Sanchez and Ozil were all on target to put the Gunners in total command by the interval.

A 57th-minute debut goal from Hornets substitute Roberto Pereyra gave Walter Mazzari’s side hope, yet ultimately it proved in vain as their wait for a maiden win of their own continues –- placing their manager under the microscope even at this stage.

The pressure had been on Wenger and his side too heading into the weekend after perfect starts from both Manchester clubs had left them playing catch-up.
This, then, was just the performance and outcome required heading into the international break.

The imminent arrivals of £50m-plus duo Shkodran Mustafi (from Valencia) and Lucas Perez (from Deportivo La Coruna) should go a step further towards placating fans.

Within nine minutes at Vicarage Road they were ahead, albeit with a helping hand from their opponents.

An exquisite curling cross from Ozil picked out Sanchez inside the area. He was bundled to the floor by Nordin Amrabat, who inadvertently clattered his opponent in the head –- leaving him in a daze.

Kevin Friend’s pause before finally pointing to the spot infuriated the home support.

Cazorla’s penalty was coolly dispatched, sending Heurelho Gomes the wrong way, for what was his first Gunners goal since February 2015.

Having only returned on the final day of last season following a six-month lay-off, that Cazorla particularly caught the eye with his penetrative passing will have been viewed as a major plus by Wenger.

It was Watford who ended the Gunners’ hopes of a third successive FA Cup last season and they soon demonstrated they could again cause their opponents problems.

Laurent Koscielny had goalkeeper Petr Cech to thank for a fine reaction save to palm away his own defender’s sliced clearance following Amrabat’s whipped cross.

Moments later Troy Deeney fired the wrong side of the left post after being fed by Jose Holebas.

Having withstood that pressure, the visitors took control and more of their trademark hypnotic passing almost carved out a second.

Ozil and Sanchez exchanged a slick one-two which sent the Chile international through yet, with the angle tight, Gomes managed to fingertip his shot away.

The former Barcelona player made no mistake at the second time of asking, however, capitalising on the Hornets’ failure to cut out Theo Walcott’s pinpoint cross to the back post five minutes before half-time.

And a miserable half for Mazzari’s team was compounded seconds before the interval.

It was all too easy as Sanchez, wide on the left, was given time to pick out the unchecked run of Ozil, who powered home a bullet header.

Mazzarri responded by introducing new signing Pereyra, and the former Juventus player needed just 11 minutes to mark his debut with a goal.

It was a classy finish too as the Argentine fired crisply inside the left post after the ball had pinballed around the Arsenal area.

Such clinical finishing could prove the difference between survival and relegation for the Hornets this term.

Watford finished strongly and Arsenal had the outstanding Cech to thank with a fine double save to deny first Etienne Capoue and then Odion Ighalo.

US, Russia move closer to new Syria ceasefire after talks

Washington and Moscow made key steps towards agreeing a new ceasefire in Syria, but a final deal has not been reached, US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart said after talks Friday.

Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made the comments after the marathon talks at a luxury hotel on the shores of Lake Geneva.

"Today I can say that we achieved clarity on the path forward" for a revamped cessation of hostilities, the top US diplomat said.

He added that the "vast majority" of technical obstacles to a ceasefire had been agreed but that some issues remained unresolved.
Lavrov echoed his American counterpart, telling reporters that "very important steps" had been made on a deal to stop the violence.

There had been hopes of a definitive announcement to stem the fighting in the war-ravaged country or on a new round of UN-brokered peace talks.

Kerry explained that US and Russian experts would continue to meet in Geneva in the coming days to pour over a set of unresolved issues in hopes of striking a durable deal.

He stressed though that "neither of us is (ready) to make an announcement that is predicated by failure -- we don't want to have a deal for the sake of a deal."

A previous ceasefire agreed earlier this year has all but collapsed, and Kerry acknowledged that "violations (of the deal) eventually became the norm rather than the exception."

Moscow and Washington support opposite sides in the Syrian conflict, which erupted in March 2011 after President Bashar al-Assad unleashed a brutal crackdown against a pro-democracy revolt.

Russia is one of Assad's most important international backers while the US supports Syria's main opposition alliance and some rebels.

Kerry on Friday listed two main priorities to ensure that a prospective revamped ceasefire holds: responding to ceasefire violations by the Damascus regime and checking the rising influence of the former Al-Nusra Front.

That group has renamed itself Fateh al-Sham Front after renouncing its status as Al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, but Kerry on Friday stressed that "Nusra is Al-Qaeda, and no name change by Nusra hides what Nusra really is and what it tries to do."

- Peace process -

The two diplomats met on and off for nearly 12 hours and were briefly joined by the UN envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, who had said Thursday hoped the talks would help his drive to revive the stalled negotiations.

Successive rounds of negotiations have failed to end a conflict that has killed more than 290,000 people and forced millions from their homes in more than five years.

De Mistura had voiced hope of bringing the warring parties back to the negotiating table by the end of August, but that deadline looks sure to slip in the face of intense fighting on the ground.

Both Kerry and Lavrov stressed the need for fresh talks to find a political solution to the crisis.

The US envoy voiced hope that installing a real ceasefire could "open the window of opportunity for us to be able to get to the table here in Geneva, and have a real negotiation about the future."

- Humanitarian aid -

The US and Russia co-chair a UN-backed humanitarian taskforce for Syria, which has been struggling to ensure access for desperately-needed aid across the country.

The UN on Friday described the lack of humanitarian access to Syria's besieged areas as "wholly unacceptable", saying just one aid convoy had completed deliveries this month.

Syria's battered second city Aleppo, which is divided between government and opposition control but surrounded by loyalist forces, has emerged as a top concern.

Russia last week gave its blessing to a long-demanded 48-hour pause in fighting in the northern city to allow in aid, but de Mistura on Thursday accused other unspecified parties of still dragging their feet.
There was hope that Friday's talks between Kerry and Lavrov might help boost those efforts, but no specific pledges on Aleppo were made.

But separately, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday "agreed to accelerate efforts to ensure help reaches people in Aleppo," Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency said.

Ancelotti happy to inherit Guardiola’s Bayern

Bayern Munich’s French midfielder Franck Ribery during the first training session with new Bayern Munich’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti at the club training area in the southern German city of Munich. Bayern Munich’s new coach Carlo Ancelotti has defended veteran winger Franck Ribery, who has been dubbed ‘a ticking time-bomb’ in the German media for a string of on-field tussles.

Pep Guardiola’s successor Carlo Ancelotti says he has changed little at Bayern Munich as the defending German champions drubbed Werder Bremen 6-0 on Friday to kick off the new season.

The Italian is clearly a fan of the adage ‘never change a winning team’ after Guardiola led Bayern to the German league and cup double on his swansong last season.

Under Guardiola, now head coach at Manchester City, and his predecessor Jupp Heynckes, Bayern won the last four Bundesliga titles in a row, a record in Germany’s top flight.

Ancelotti says he made few changes to Guardiola’s set up as Robert Lewandowski netted a hat-trick and Bayern enjoyed 70 percent possession at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
“I changed very little as this is a very strong team, maybe we just need to play forward a little more,” Ancelotti told German broadcaster ARD.

“I am very happy. That was a very good performance from my team.

“We got off to a good start and took control of the game early on.

“We played well over the 90 minutes, I’m happy and there are only a few things to improve.

“Robert Lewandowski is a fantastic striker, but we played well going forward, using lots of combinations and attacked with lots of players.”

Lewandowski, the Bundesliga’s top-scorer last season with 30 goals, could have finished with five as Bayern ran riot.

After Xabi Alonso scored the first goal of the 2016/17 campaign at Munich’s Allianz Arena, Lewandowski netted either side of the break before captain Philipp Lahm added a fourth.

It was no more than shooting practise for Bayern by the time Franck Ribery fired home, with Lewandowski then converting a penalty to claim his third and Munich’s sixth.

Germany forward Thomas Mueller was outstanding with three assists, including a superb cross for Lewandowski’s second — 39 seconds after the break.

Having also hammered Hamburg 5-0 in last season’s opening game, this was another emphatic win as Bayern look to win a fifth Bundesliga title in a row.

Ancelotti’s next league game is at Schalke 04, who finished fifth last season to qualify for the Europa League, after the international break on September 9.

– squad ‘so strong’ –

The ex-Chelsea, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid head coach says his biggest problem is who to leave out of the starting line-up in Bayern’s star-studded squad.

“The squad is so strong that it is very hard to only put on 11 players, because it means you have 11 happy faces and 12 or 13 who are not,” said Ancelotti.

“I found a fantastic atmosphere at Bayern, the players generate a good team spirit and support each other.

“They seem to be tight personally.”

Guardiola, a self-confessed perfectionist, often seems obsessed with winning, a character trait which has so far earned him 21 trophies with either Bayern or Barcelona.

Ancelotti says he is more concerned about the harmony within the squad, which he believes will yield results.

“I don’t always think about winning,” confessed the Italian, who has already won the German Super Cup — the 18th title of his career as coach — with Bayern.

“It is more important there is a good rapport among the players.

“If you win, it is a result of that.”

Buhari Amused Over Case Of Man Who Named Dog After Him, Says Presidency

The Presidency has described as laughable, attempts to link President Muhammadu Buhari to the arrest and prosecution of Joachim Iroko, a 41 year old trader in Ogun State.

Mr. Iroko was arrested by the Ogun Police Command for naming his dog ‘Buhari’.

He was first arrested on August 14 by officers attached to the Sango Otta Division after receiving complaints from a neighbor, who said the name Iroko gave his dog was offensive.

According to the complainant, Salihu Umar, the ‘Buhari’ name Mr. Iroko gave his dog was the same as his father’s name.

He was subsequently arrested by the police and detained before he was finally charged with a one-count of attempted breach of public peace on August 22. He pleaded not guilty.

Bolaji Ojikutu, the Chief Magistrate in charge of the case, remanded Mr. Iroko in prison custody pending fulfilment of his N50,000 bail.

Mr. Iroko finally met his bail conditions on Wednesday after receiving about N90,000 through fundraising appeal coordinated by a human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong and was released around noon on Thursday.

In all, Mr. Iroko spent 11 days in detention – three in prison custody and eight in a police cell in Sango Otta, Ogun.

The incident drew flaks for the Presidency from a cross-section of Nigerians, who expressed fears that Nigeria was fast becoming a police state with citizens’ rights to freedom of expression threatened under the Buhari administration.

But the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said late Thursday that condemning Buhari for failing to call the police to order on the matter was a display of “ignorance of the type of person he is”.

“He enjoys cartoons and likes sharing them. The ones he enjoys the most are those that caricature him”, Mr. Shehu said in a short reaction posted on his Twitter handle. “People should listen to the real story behind this dog incident and to not waste precious time seeking the hand of the President in a laughable incident!”

Mr. Shehu’s comment was the first time the Buhari administration would comment on the development.

“The President must be having a good laugh over this whole thing”, his spokesman added.

Juan Mata and Jose Mourinho have reached a strange agreement

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is said to have reached an agreement with manager Jose Mourinho over his role in the squad, accepting that he will have a reduced role in the squad compared to last season under the management of Louis van Gaal.

Mata played every single one of United’s league games last season, starting all but four of them, but looks set for a reduced role in the coming campaign even though he has started both of the club’s Premier League games so far.

The Spaniard even scored the club’s first goal of the season, striking the opener in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth, but the Telegraph report that he has accepted after talks with Mourinho that he will not have the same guaranteed first-team role he enjoyed under Van Gaal.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to come in and replace Mata on the right when he has bedded into his role at the club, but the Spaniard will not be sold this summer as Mourinho puts his own stamp on the squad.

A number of players are still expected to leave Old Trafford before Wednesday’s transfer deadline, but Mata – who had attracted interest from Everton at one point – does not look like being one of them.

Lawyers Caught Writing Exams For Students

The Director General of the Nigerian Law School (NLA), Professor Olanrewaju Onadeko (SAN), has lamented that some lawyers were now in the habit of sitting for examinations for students in the law school.

He said some had already been caught in the act and the students involved awaiting disciplinary measures.

Onadeko made the disclosure in Port Harcourt on Thursday while presenting the report of the school at the on-going 56th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

“Some lawyers were caught sitting as surrogates for students at the Nigerian Law School. In other words, they were caught writing examination for students at the school”, he said.

He however did not disclose the number of lawyers and students caught in the act but said the students involved had been sent to NBA for appropriate actions.

He also urged the NBA leadership to take serious and drastic actions against such erring legal practitioners to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to follow similar path.

Also speaking on the incident, a legal practitioner with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Jacob (SAN), frowned at such an occurrence. Charging NBA to take serious punitive measures against those lawyers caught in the act, he said, “such lawyers should be punished after the due process had been followed.

‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ is About To Be Cancelled

According to Hollywood Life, ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ is on the brink of cancellation, and it’s all because a number of the kids want to wipe their hands clean of the long-running reality show.

The gossip site says, Kris Jenner is absolutely desperate to save the reality show, despite its recent ratings decline. But she can’t do that without her kids, and hardly anyone else in the family wants to keep doing the show.

“They’ve got their own lives and don’t want to air their feuds anymore. Kris feels they’re betraying her, and it’s led to some huge fights”, a source close to the family revealed.

HL added that, half of the Kardashians want to leave KUWTK, especially Kim. But that has a lot to do with Kanye West‘s influence. Kanye has reportedly been pressuring Kim to leave the show for years. “It’s no secret that Kanye never wanted to be involved in the show and feels it’s time for Kim to bail. He doesn’t see any reason to keeping caving in to Kris’ demands. Kanye thinks Kim is leaps and bounds above reality TV and needs to focus on bigger things, whether it’s more apps like Kimoji or her own fashion line,” a source told the magazine.

Another person who isn’t into doing the show anymore is Rob. “Rob hated doing the show and would be perfectly happy if it all ended,” the source said.

And believe it or not, Kylie and Kendall Jenner are also reportedly over it. “Kendall’s got her modeling career, and Kylie would rather focus on her lipstick and cosmetics lines. They don’t need the show to survive.”

Kourtney also recently said she’s ready to move on.

The only person willing to stick it out is Khloe, who believes fans will be interested in learning more about her weight loss and self-help journey. But the source believes Khloe can’t carry the show alone, which is why Kris is absolutely freaking out.

Man kills, buries business associate in Warri

Ogbaire, pictured above is a spare parts dealer in Warri, Delta
State and has admitted that he callously murdered his associate,
Lawrence Okoh, and buried his body in a shallow grave.
On August 2, Okoh had left his Port Harcourt business outfit to
supply generator spare parts to Ogbaire in Warri.
After the supply, he did not return home and the police declared
him missing. He had, earlier that day, sent a text message to his
wife that he would not make it back to Port Harcourt and that he
would pass the night with Ogbaire in Warri.
His wife contacted Ogbaire, who claimed that he knew Okoh very
well, but that he had not seen him for over a period of time.
The police, however, raided the spare parts market in Warri
where the wife was able to identify some of the parts Okoh left
with on the fateful day.
The shop owner, where the parts were found, took the police to
Ogbaire, the person who supplied them. Ogbaire allegedly
confessed to the police that he murdered Okoh and buried him in
a shallow grave in an uncompleted building.
Okoh’s decomposing body was later exhumed and released to the
family for burial.
Ogbaire said he killed Okoh in order not to pay him the money for
the spare parts he supplied him. Okoh left behind, a set of twins,
which he had last year, 8 years after his marriage.

OFFICIAL: MAN CITY SIGN BRAVO FROM BARCELONA

The Chile international has moved to the Etihad Stadium
on a four-year deal to replace Joe Hart, who is now
expected to leave the club before the transfer window
closes
Manchester City have completed the signing of Claudio Bravo for
£13.75 million, plus a possible further £2.5m in performance-
related add-ons.
Bravo will earn around £100,000 per week after signing a four-
year deal at the Etihad Stadium, almost double what he earned
during his two-year spell at Camp Nou.
The 33-year-old could make his City debut against West Ham on
Sunday afternoon, and will also be registered in Pep Guardiola’s
Uefa squad list for this season’s Champions League campaign.
He won two La Liga titles during his time with Barca, although he
did not receive a medal from Uefa when the Catalans won the
Champions League in 2015 because he did not feature during
their European campaign.
It is believed the opportunity to play in both the league and the
Champions League was a major factor in the Chilean’s decision to
link up with Guardiola.
Bravo arrived in Manchester on Tuesday to complete his move,
although it is believed he was not present at the Etihad on
Wednesday night as Joe Hart started what could be his final game
for the club.
Barca had been keen to secure a replacement for the double-
winning Copa America keeper, and the arrival of Jasper Cillessen
from Ajax on Thursday morning allowed Bravo’s move to be
completed.

Begovic.
The goalkeeper has won 35 caps for his country, and made a total

Chelsea, to such a big club, it is an easy decision to make," he told
Chelsea's official website.
"For me this is the best and the most difficult league and it is
another level from where I have been until now. So it is a new
challenge, at this moment I feel very good, so I am ready for this.
"All the colleagues I have always say the dream is to come to the
Premier League, where there are the best clubs and the best
players, and the opportunity to come here arrived at this
moment.
"I am happy to be here and I hope I meet the expectations people
have for me."
Eduardo is Chelsea's third signing of the summer, following the
acquisitions of Michy Batshuayi and N'Golo Kante from Marseille
and Leicester City respectively.

John Kerry meets northern Nigerian religious leaders in Sokoto

US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived Nigeria earlier today, where he meet with the Sultan of Sokoto at his Palace.

The top Diplomat was in the State to discuss counter-terrorism efforts with Political and religious leaders from the region.

While at the palace, Mr. Kerry also delivered a speech on the importance of resilient communities and religious tolerance in battling violent extremism.

Kerry will later today travel to Abuja to meet President Muhammadu Buhari. The Diplomat is expected to discuss the state of the economy with President Buhari during his trip to the capital.

The visit, likely the last by a major American official during the Obama administration, comes as the two countries have gradually been stepping up their cooperation after a period of strained relations.

CONTE: I DON'T UNDERSTAND COSTA CRITICISM

The Blues boss believes the Spain international is picked
on unfairly and hopes he can channel his anger
elsewhere for the good of the English game
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed he does not
understand those who choose to criticise striker Diego Costa for his
on-field behaviour.
The Spain international has been booked for dissent during both
of the Blues's first two Premier League matches of the season,
with many believing he should have seen red after further
misdemeanors later in both games.
Conte has defended his player, but has called on the former
Atletico Madrid forward to stay focused on the match once he
steps out onto the field.
"I don't understand that other players or managers or press all
say bad (things) about him," he told reporters.
"Diego must be focused on the match. Because for me, the most
important thing is the match - it's important to pay attention,
because he is an important player and he can score a lot of goals
and I want him to put himself in the game and not to think of
other situations.
"Because it's not good for him, for me, for Chelsea or the fans. I
think for the English league, this is no good.
"Have I spoken to him about it? Yes, I try to speak to all my
players – all together and individually and its important to have
these relations. But when I speak to them, I keep it between
ourselves."

Sultan's an Ambassador of Peace, National Unity, Says Saraki

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Wednesday, described the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, as an ambassador of peace, promoter of national unity, champion of of national development, embodiment of tradition and culture and a source of inspiration to many Nigerians.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja, on the 60th birthday anniversary of the Sultan said he was specifically delighted to identify with the Royal father in view of his worthy lifestyle, egalitarian leadership, compassionate support for the downtrodden and acting as voice to the voiceless in society.

Saraki said: "I am delighted to congratulate you on this epoch anniversary of attaining the age of 60. Your legacies as the Sultan of Sokoto, the head of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), are visible to all. You have continued to diligently serve humanity both in your immediate domain and the country at large.

"You remain a great source of blessing and inspiration to the entire country, especially your quest for peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, fight against insurgency, free and compulsory education for the less privileged and the holistic development and unity of the entire country. I pray that the Almighty Allah will continue to grant you perfect health, long life and more wisdom in the discharge of your duties," he said.

The Senate President also wished the Sultan more fruitful years of service to the nation in particular and humanity in general. While also congratulating the Government and people of Sokoto State on the occasion, he called on the entire country to continue to pray for the Sultan for more wisdom and strength.

GUARDIOLA WARNS AGUERO NOT TO 'DISAPPEAR'

The Manchester City boss is pleased with the Argentine's
six goals so far this season but was at pains to point out
that he must keep up his work-rate off the ball
Pep Guardiola has told Sergio Aguero to keep up his pressing of
opposition defenders, warning him not to "disappear" when out
of possession.
Aguero has hit six goals in his first three games of the season,
including two at Stoke City on Saturday, helping Manchester City
start life with a 100 per cent record under Guardiola.
But the City boss, speaking after the 4-1 victory in the Potteries,
was at pains to point out that the Argentine needs to carry on
contributing when his side do not have the ball.
Goal understands that Guardiola's technical staff highlighted
Aguero's relative lack of effort when not in possession before the
Catalan started work in Manchester this summer.
The Blues moved to seal the £27 million signing of Brazil
youngster Gabriel Jesus after being encouraged by his willingness
to close down defenders, and they hope that his eventual arrival
at the Etihad Stadium will put pressure on Aguero to improve that
aspect of his game further.
Guardiola does admit his No.10 has been making strides in that
department, but he was keen to ram the message home when
asked to evaluate his two-goal performance at Stoke.
"To score five goals in two games is a good statistic," he told
reporters. "From the beginning we spoke with Sergio.
"He knows we are here to help him to play the way to create as
many chances as possible and more chances to score goals.
"But he has to help us. It’s not enough to receive the ball from his
team-mates. He has to help us in the first pressure and run a lot
and help us a lot with movement.
"Until now he’s doing it and when that happens you are involved
in defensive tasks and the offensive.
"You cannot be brilliant when you disappear when you [don't]
have the ball. It’s impossible. Football is a connection between
what you have with the ball and without the ball.
"In the Sunderland game and the last two games he did it, and
we can’t forget you need more training sessions."
Guardiola has also opened the door to Kelechi Iheanacho, who
replaced Aguero at the newly named Bet365 Stadium on Saturday
and helped create City's third and fourth goals.
The Nigerian youngster signed a two-year contract extention on
Thursday, and Guardiola says he will have plenty of opportunities
this season.
"He is always ready," he added. "We will need him. Sergio can’t
play all season and Kelli is going to play. That’s why we saw Sergio
was a little bit tired after playing four days ago and the travel.
"He kept the ball and made some very nice assists. We can’t
achieve anything with just 11 or 12 players. We need everybody
and I hope they realise that.
"Of course I have to decide and there are moments during the
season where players are on top, are down and when that
happens they will sit down beside me and we will play the players
[that] are in better condition."

Arsene Wenger Opens Up On Frugal Approach To Spending At Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the reason why he is so cautious in the transfer market.

Wenger who is known for being one of the most prudent football managers, confessed his reluctance to spend money at Arsenal is due to the fact that he treats the club’s transfer budget as if it were his own money.

Although the manager has come under intense criticisms from their supporters, he has always upheld his policies with firm hands.

Wenger disclosed: ‘I personally believe the only way to be a manager is to spend the club’s money as if it were your own, because if you don’t do that you’re susceptible to too many mistakes,’

In recent years, the Gunners boss has changed his ways, spending a little more to sign top stars like Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and lately Granit Xhaka.

‘You make big decisions and I believe you have to act like it’s your own money – like you’re the owner of the club and you can identify completely with the club, because if you don’t do that I think you cannot go far.’ The Frenchman explained

Pep Delivers Final Blow To England International’s Future

Manchester city boss Pep Guardiola has opened up on the future of English goalkeeper, Joe Hart ahead of their Champions league qualifier against Bucharest Steaua.

Admitting the imminent arrival of Claudio Bravo, Guardiola confessed Joe Hart may be on his way out of the Etihad following a suspected heated exchange between the pair in the team’s training ahead of the match.

Guardiola said: “Yes, he has chance to play tomorrow. I don’t know if it will be his last game.

“I’ve said many times he’s our player. Until the 31st of this month, all the players here are our players, my players.

Discussing their training ground exchange, Guardiola said: “We spoke about football. I have an excellent relationship with Joe.

“I work with them like there is no end. After we will speak about everything, and the situation with Joe I have spoken about that in the last two press conferences.”

Barcelona Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is expected to join City for a fee around £17 million after the Catalan club technical director confirmed the deal earlier this week and pictures of the Chilean arriving Manchester surfaced online

John Kerry REVEALS How Nigeria Can Conquer Boko Haram

United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry on Tuesday affirmed that the use of force alone cannot end Boko Haram insurgents.

Rather, he said the Federal Government should seek reasons Boko Haram terrorists are attacking NIgerians.

During a visit to Nigeria, the American top diplomat condemned insurgency, stating that ‘Boko Haram boasts of no agenda more than to burn schools and places of worships. They also kill and maim people, especially teachers, and it is the opposite of religion.’

Mr Kerry commended President Muhammadu Buhari over his war against corruption and government’s efforts in recovering loots.

He said corruption costs the world a whopping $2.6 trillion yearly. The money, he noted, was enough to provide decent livelihood for the people.

“This is money that can be used to improve the living standard and provide decent livelihoods for them. Corruption is not only a crime, but very dangerous and it must be tamed,” he said.

Commending President Buhari for his efforts in fighting corruption, Kerry noted that corrupt officials, anywhere in the world, were crooks.

He said Buhari understood the danger of corruption and that Nigeria was already a regional leader in the fight against corruption.

”Nigeria is also a role model in the ongoing global efforts to fight corruption,” he stated, and acknowledged measures being applied by Buhari to entrench morality, transparency, honesty and good governance in the country.

Mr. Kerry lauded the Federal Government for recovering loots, stressing that there was the need for all government institutions, including military, other security agencies and the judiciary, to support the anti-corruption campaign.

“U.S. is also fully committed to fighting corruption and the entrenchment of good governance globally.

“One of Nigeria’s strengths is diversity of culture and religious tolerance. The former leaders of the defunct Sokoto caliphate and others like the late Sir Ahmadu Bello had stood by the virtues of peace, unity and tolerance,” he said.

Guardiola confirms Bravo on his way to replace Hart

Barcelona’s Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo arrives to take part in a training session at the Sports Center FC Barcelona Joan Gamper in Sant Joan Despi, near Barcelona on August 16, 2016, on the eve of the second-leg of the Spanish Super Cup football match between FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC.

Pep Guardiola insisted on Tuesday that he will continue working with Joe Hart at Manchester City, even as Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo flew in to replace the unwanted England international.
Hart has been the most high-profile victim of Guardiola’s new reign as manager of the Premier League club, with the City boss publicly announcing his preference for a goalkeeper who can play better with the ball at his feet.

Willy Caballero replaced Hart for City’s first three competitive games, all victories, that Spanish manager Guardiola has overseen.

Bravo flew in to Manchester from Barcelona on Tuesday to complete his reported £17 million ($22 million, 20 million euros) transfer from the Spanish club, a move that will see Hart, England’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper during this year’s European Championships, relegated to third choice at the Eastlands.

Hart’s plight has been compounded because potential moves to Everton and Sevilla appear to have fallen through, at least in part due to his high salary which makes even a loan move prohibitive for many potential suitors.

“I have an excellent relationship with Joe. We are clear –- him with me, I with him. We spoke about football,” said Guardiola who was photographed talking to Hart during training ahead of City’s Champions League qualifying tie with Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday.

“So I can’t deny what everybody knows. Barcelona, seven to 10 days ago, were the first ones to announce contact with Manchester City.

“But I’m sorry guys, until the deal is complete or not complete (I can’t speak), but at the moment the player (Bravo) is not our player,” Guardiola also told reporters.

“Until August 31, all the players here are my players, and I will work with them like there is no end, so after that we can speak about everything.

“The situation with Joe, I spoke about in the last two press conferences. I am not able to speak about negotiations.”

– Strong Sterling –
Meanwhile, Guardiola has backed forward Raheem Sterling to cope with the abuse he is receiving from opposition supporters after he was roundly booed in the weekend victory at Stoke.

Sterling suffered more than most from England’s disappointing European Championship campaign and attracted unwanted attention off the field, but Guardiola has no doubt his player will prevail.

“The fans may boo because they know how good he is,” said the manager. “He has shown us, he has shown me, that in this team he is mentally strong and can focus on his job from the beginning of the game.

“He will make good things happen for us and for the England national team, I’m pretty sure of that,” the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss added.

“When people stop talking about him for what happens off the pitch and talk about him for what happens on the pitch then everything is going well.”

The City manager has made an impressive start to the new campaign despite being without injured captain Vincent Kompany and pre-season signings Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane, although he expects the trio to be available for the Manchester derby on September 10.

“Now we have this week and then 10 days to work with them in training sessions to improve their physical condition,” said Guardiola. “Hopefully when we come back from the international break they will be fully part of our training.

Woman Sells Wedding Dress On eBay To Pay For Divorce

A woman in the UK has been reported to have placed her wedding dress for sale on eBay to pay for her divorce.

Samantha Wragg, 28, was said to have placed her size 6 wedding dress up for sale on eBay along with a tongue in cheek description detailing her divorce from her “cheating scumbag of a husband.”

She wrote, “I’m selling this designer Art Deco wedding dress in ivory. Mainly selling as I need to pay for my divorce which my ex-husband has left me to foot the bill for!”

Wragg also warned potential buyers to dry clean the dress before wearing to “get rid of the stench of betrayal.”

Wragg who wrote a blog post explaining the dress barely received any views in its first two weeks on eBay.

She then took advice from her brother and wrote an hilarious description.

“I work in social media for my day job so in the back of my mind I was hoping it would go viral – but I never expected this!”

“A lot of people have got the wrong end of the stick and think it’s really bitter but anyone who knows me knows I’ve got a great sense of humour,” Wragg wrote.

Wragg said her parents paid £2,000 for the dress in 2014 but her clever listing has resulted in bids as high as £65,900 with less than a day left on the auction.

Chinese Scientists Discover Molecules To Repair Organs

Chinese scientists said they have discovered a small molecule that can regenerate tissue with ease.

Professores Zhou Dawang, Deng Xianming, of the School of Life Sciences, Xiamen University, and Yun Caihong of Peking University, the lead researches, disclosed this in Xiamen (China).

They said that the findings were published in the latest edition of Science Transnational Medicine, on Aug. 17, saying in the future it could make tissue regeneration much easier for many.

Zhou said they have discovered a drug, XMU-MP-1, which can promote repair and regeneration in the liver, intestines and skin.

“In the future, the pills may do away the need for organ transplant or complex biomaterial and cell therapies.

Xianming said the he and his colleagues specifically targeted a critical signalling molecule in the Hippo pathway, which controls organ size.

He noted that the XMU-MP-1 has proven to inhibit the activity of MST1/2, the central component of this pathway and promote cell growth in four different mouse models of acute and chronic injuries.

Xianming said it include the acetaminophen-induced injury, which is a common cause of liver failure worldwide.

He added that they have applied for a patent and are cooperating with pharmaceutical companies to produce the medicine.

Over 1KG Of Hairball Removed From Woman’s Stomach

A hairball weighing over 1 kilogram has been removed from a woman’s stomach, reports suggest.

Jasmin Percival, 23, has a habit of sucking and chewing on her hair since she was a child.

“As soon as I had a full head of hair, I always had a lock stuffed in my mouth,” said Jasmin.

When she was 14, she started to suffer excruciatingly painful stomach aches. Jasmin was in so much agony that her mum Sarah took her to see her doctor.

After several trips, Jasmin was finally diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

But the pains didn’t go away and, one night, two years later, Jasmin woke herself up screaming in pain.

Her mum rushed her to A&E (accident and emergency) where they carried out a scan. Nothing could have prepared them for what the doctors found.

The stabbing feeling Jasmin was experiencing in her stomach was down to a giant monster ball of hair weighing over 1 kilogram. The scared teen was given an epidural and the mass was removed by Caesarean.

Luckily, Jasmin made a full recovery, but still can’t get over the shock of what was in her stomach.

Mikel leads fight for football bronze

Players of the national U-23 team at the Rio Games have said they
would not leave Brazil without the bronze medal. Their statement
comes as the Nigerians take on Honduras in the bronze medal (third-
place) match of the Olympics.
The team captained by Mikel Obi had set their sights on the gold but
now have to settle for bronze after they got knocked out by Germany
in the semifinal match played on Wednesday in Sao Paulo. Mikel, who
had spoken to reporters several times on his desire to win the Olympic
gold before returning to Chelsea, said after the 2-0 loss to Germany
that as professionals, they would simply adjust their mental setting
and focus on the fresh challenge of winning the bronze medal.
He said, “We arrived in Brazil with our minds set on the gold but it’s
painful that it has turned out this way. Every match played was with
the mind-set to win it.
“We gave everything against Germany but luck wasn’t on our side. We
will keep going for bronze, to make Nigeria proud.”
Coach Samson Siasia, who also regretted his team’s semifinal defeat,
spoke of his determination not to leave the Olympics empty-handed.
After getting over the defeat to Germany, he said focus was now on
this match. “We are going to face it with all seriousness because it is
better to go home with a bronze than nothing at all. We came here with
determination to win gold but we have to face the reality on ground
and be very professional. We will go for it.”
The Honduras side, who very few imagined could get to this level, are
also determined to leave the venue with a medal. Indeed it is a rare
opportunity for the South American team and analysts feel they
could be hungrier than Nigeria to win. Their 6-0 loss to Brazil in the
first semifinal game has not helped their rating but like Nigeria, they
believe they have recovered enough to face the fresh bronze
challenge.
Their goalkeeper Luis Lopez spoke to the media here on behalf of his
teammates on the bronze medal match on Saturday. Lopez said they
had recovered enough from the defeat to Brazil. For them the third-
place match is another final match.
“This game obviously hurts (losing to Brazil), but we have to pick our
heads up because we have another final. It will be hard, but we have
to recover and start to work on Saturday’s game. This is football,” he
said.
The match will kick off at 1pm local time (5pm Nigeria) at Mineirao,
Belo Horizonte. The match will round off in time for the final classic
holding at the Maracana Stadium between Brazil and Germany.
The Olympic medal fight is not new to Siasia. In Beijing 2008, he got
the silver after a Lionel Messi inspired Argentina side defeated
Nigeria. He could not make it to the last stage but he and his players
know they are carrying a huge burden for a country whose athletes
practically fell on the way side.
Siasia, Mikel and the players are in Rio and understand how delicate
the situation is. Perhaps the importance of this medal could push
them above Honduras. It is just a matter of time and the match will
begin.

PRINCE POGBA AND KING ZLATAN REIGN OVER OLD TRAFFORD

Two new signings at opposite ends of the career
spectrum have given the Red Devils their belief back
under Jose Mourinho
The merchandise sellers around Sir Alex Ferguson Way had new
faces to stich into their scarves for the first Manchester United
home match of the season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba
may be at the opposite ends of their respective career paths but
both represent the new face of this famous old club.
United have had big signings before but they have their chests
puffed out again now, employing as they are the most-expensive
footballer in history and, arguably, the third-greatest forward
on the planet. It has made for a sensational start to the season;
the familiar relentlessness of a successful Jose Mourinho side is
already in full flow.
Southampton won here last season and the season before that but
the days of underdogs coming to Old Trafford and taking away
wins away look long gone. Mourinho presides over one of the
proudest home records in football management and that extends
to this ground now.
Old Trafford feels again like the kind place where decent teams
come to get only a chastening. United were dominant, at their
regal best, with King Zlatan and Prince Paul reigning over all
others.
This was, of course, Pogba's second debut for his first senior club.
He would have preferred not to give the ball away with his very
first touch and cause a Southampton breakaway but the longer
the game went on the more comfortable the French midfielder
looked.
He set some United attacks going with his range of short and long
passing, dribbled through the Saints' back line to create danger
and was a menace in the box on the Wayne Rooney cross which
Ibrahimovic converted to give United the lead.
The 34-year-old displayed no nerves and has wasted no time
adapting to his new surroundings. His scarcely believable goal rate
from his Paris Saint-Germain days shows no signs of letting up in
the Premier League.
He added to his powerful header - for which he pinned Jose
Fonte down powerfully - with a second-half penalty won by Luke
Shaw. Any doubt who the top dog in the dressing room is now
should be cleared up by the sight of captain Rooney tossing the
ball to Zlatan for his spot kick.
Ibrahimovic has been here before - in an imposing side and
expecting to win - and will go the distance in any title race. As
for Pogba, this was as good a debut as he could have hoped for.
He had a skimpy pre-season in which he spent more time playing
basketball with Romelu Lukaku than football with his new team-
mates. This, though, will settle him and give him belief.
There is still a sensation that for all his intricate footwork and
deadly strikes from distance he still lacks the crucial aspect of
midfield player - that quiet domination of his sector for 90
minutes.
However, what is apparent is a genuine excitement for
Manchester United this season. There would appear to be a
perfect blend of solidity at the back - led by the outstanding Eric
Bailly - and the fantasy element added to the squad by Pogba,
Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and, of course, the man in
charge. Mourinho and United appear a perfect fit.
The club gave itself a huge boost with their work in the transfer
market and in their recruitment of the two-time Champions
League winner as coach. It might be a Europa League reality for
United this season - with more matches to come on Thursdays
than Fridays - but they are operating in the realms of the super
clubs again.
They have convinced the biggest names to come on board - the
best players in France, Germany and Spain - and the most
magnetic personality in football to oversee it all.
They do not feel like a fading force any longer - the fans are
coming here expecting to win.

Edo Workers Jubilate Over Payment Of 7 Months Salary

The joy of workers of Egor local government council, Edo State, knew no bound on Monday following the payment of seven months of the 17 months owed them.

The jubilant workers commended members of the State House of Assembly for the approval and timely release of funds for the payment of the salary arrears.

President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State chapter, Comrade Young Ilenikhena, who confirmed the development, expressed the workers’ appreciation and called on the state government to do pay the remaining arrears.

Also commenting on the issue at a plenary session, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Justin Okonoboh, said the payment of the seven months salaries was as a result of a recent resolution of the House which mandated the State Government to source the sum of N366,467,000 from the Central Bank of Nigeria to pay the workers.

He assured that all categories of workers being owed in the State would be paid, just as he sued for patience on the part of affected workers as they go about their normal duties.

“With this gesture, the council workers have been paid seven months out of the 17 months salary arrears owed workers by the council,” he stated.
